Randy Colby (AKA Wreckless Abandon, Project One, Abstract) is always striving to push the boundaries of music into future genres and styles. His strengths are composition, melody, vocals, synth programming, and sound synthesis. Although his first love is electronic music, he has an appreciation and a desire to collaborate and combine with old and new styles alike. Randy uses an array of monikers to express differing aspects of creativity. Wreckless Abandon is a blend of rock, pop, industrial, and electronic grooves. Project One is currently his alias for IDM, breaks, and other dance oriented genres. Randy began learning piano at an early age of 8 years old. Frustrated with his slow and redundant piano lessons, he found he could much more easily play the songs he enjoyed by ear. By 12 years old, Randy was already creating his own original freeform melodies. With his first job he purchased his first synth, a Casio which was extremely limited. Randy purchased his first professional synth several years later, which allowed him much more creativity and freedom. Randy started writing and performing club music shortly thereafter. From there, his music progressed and he soon formed Divine Rhythm - a downtempo band with partner Lydia Goossens. Their music was released on a compilation from N-Soul Records and was featured in genre-specific magazines such as HM and Young Salvationist as being the best in the lineup. Divine Rhythm went through a transition period when the band moved to Colorado, then to California. Divine Rhythm finally dissolved in 2002. Out of this transition, Randy began writing harder, more rock oriented material that was better suited for his own original vocal style. He formed Wreckless Abandon and started performing at shows in Los Angeles. Randy sold several homemade CD's at these shows, and was complimented by fans and friends alike on the originality and strong performance. Randy has just released his debut CD as Wreckless Abandon (as of May 2009), and has recently had success on Indabamusic.com placing 5th in popular votes for the Colbert Remix Challenge, and 8th in popular votes for the PBS The Music Instinct: Science & Song contest.
